Its name is linked both to its deep red color with violet reflections and to a legend that tells that Judas, after dying and having spent that sad life on earth, bitterly regretted betraying Jesus. According to the legend, Jesus, as a sign of forgiveness, resurrected him, in flesh and bones, in Oltrepò. Recognized, the locals decided to kill him for his role in the passion of Christ, and Judas managed to save himself thanks to a gift he made to the local winemakers, healing the vines from the disease that had struck them. To thank him, the winemakers dedicated the name of the wine from that area to him, which since then became Sangue di Giuda.
