Its name is linked both to the ruby red color with violet reflections, and to a legend that tells that Judas, after dying and having spent that sad time on earth, bitterly regretted betraying Jesus. According to the legend, Jesus, as a sign of forgiveness, would have resurrected him, in flesh and bone, in Oltrepò.
Recognizing him, the local citizens decided to kill him for his role in the passion of Christ, and Judas managed to save himself thanks to a gift he made to the local winemakers, healing the vines from the disease that had struck them. In gratitude, the winemakers dedicated the name of the wine from that area to him, which since then became Sangue di Giuda.
