Merlot is a black grape variety, whose name derives from the particular preference that the blackbird (in French, merle) has for its berries. Often a companion in Cabernet Sauvignon blends, it is one of the so-called “international” French grapevines, among the most cultivated in all parts of the world, thanks also to its high adaptability.
