Lugana D.O.C.

Lugana wine is produced in the area of lower Garda, on a particular clayey soil, a residue of the last glaciations, which is the base of what was once the glacier from which Lake Garda formed.
It was a very important area even during the Roman period, as it was the natural passage between east and west. This territory was also dear to the poet Catullus, and as evidence of this, there are not only the remains of his villa in Sirmione (whose ruins are still clearly visible) but also his works, in which the renowned Lugana is mentioned more than once.
