Chianti DOCG

As is the case with most historic wines, there are various theories about the origin of the name: according to some accounts, it may derive from the Latin term ‘clangor’ (noise), recalling the noise of hunting beats; according to other versions, the name could come from the Etruscan ‘clante’, a name of Etruscan families widespread in the area. Supporting this hypothesis are Etruscan and Roman testimonies demonstrating ancient winemaking traditions, although the earliest documents in which the name Chianti is identified with a specific wine-producing area date back to the 13th century. The first notarial document dating back to 1398 refers to the name Chianti concerning the wine produced in this area.
